Speech: Networked Memory: A Storage and Network Codesign Approach

Abstract:

NVM (non-volatile memory) is emerging and blurring the memory and storage boundary. RDMA (remote direct memory access) enables efficient remote byte-addressable accesses. With the two technologies, our research group aim to design a networked memory system, to support shared and efficient memory accesses. In this talk, I will first present our initial networked memory system, Octopus, which is the first distributed file system based on NVM and RDMA. Then, I will present our in-network cache coherence design, Concordia, which significantly reduces the cache coherence overhead leveraging programmable switches. And finally, I will discuss our other tries in the memory and storage system design leveraging the network hardware, and conclude the talk.
